A lanyard is a great Christmas gift idea . . .

Something to think about . . . a custom made fly fishing lanyard makes a great Christmas gift for a friend, or for yourself!

I can take orders for lanyards as Christmas gifts through Dec. 10th, with the guarantee that you, or your gift receiver, will receive it before Christmas Day!

I look forward to the opportunity to make the fishing lanyard YOU want for YOUR preferred fishing style on YOUR preferred waters.

High water in many fly fishing areas . . . please be careful . . .

Friends in the eastern and western parts of the country, as well as here in Texas, have reported that some rivers and creeks are running higher than normal, and very fast.    Some areas caution against wading due to dangerous conditions . . .

Please be careful!!!!

When fishing higher water, carrying less weight is the rule!!!   Only load on your lanyard and / or vest what you know you will need . . . keep your center of gravity as low as possible.

Check your fly fishing jackets . . . it may be time to re-apply waterproofing . . . wet clothes mean heavier and colder clothes.  If the water situation changes, or becomes uncomfortable, then get out of the river.

Again, my friends, please be careful.   Better to come back when water conditions are safe, than to risk life or injury for the sake of a thrill.

Lanyards shipped to two new states . . .

I shipped off a special custom lanyard today to Cris in Kentucky, as well as a Dry Fly Model (Black / Brown) to Jason in Oregon.

Pictures of the lanyard I built for Cris will up in a few days.  It has 8 swivel connectors and a tippet holder . . . truly the "kitchen sink" of any model lanyard I have ever made.

More info to come.

Customer Bobby P. from North Carolina recently ordered a Tiberias Model lanyard (Black/Turquoise) as well as a Tiberias - Taylor, Texas edition lanyard.

Bobby is pictured here with a nice bull redfish he recently caught during the Labor Day weekend.

Nice fish Bobby!   Thank you again for your order!

Hey . . . I forgot to add another state to the list!

I recently shipped a lanyard to Florida!   That puts the total number of states I have shipped lanyards to at 17!

This is still a pleasure for me!   Every single one of my customers has been top notch people.  All have been a pleasure to work with.

17 states!!!  What an honor!

A note from a customer . . .

A recent note from a customer, Bob W. of Ohio, who ordered the Southwestern Model lanyard pictured in the post before this one . . .

Rick:

Your Southwestern lanyard arrived today and I just don't know what to say.  It is a piece of southwestern artwork made with a passion, and a love, and a desire to produce a quality product.  It is absolutely beautiful.   Additionally, the ichthys (the sign of the fish) makes is special.  You can be sure that I will gladly tell other fishermen where I got it.  Certainly not from a big, bulk warehouse.

Thanks again Rick.  The Water Walker Lanyard lives up to my expectations....and more.

Bob

Thanks Bob, for the kind words.  I appreciate you!

Tiberias and Taylor, Texas lanyards to North Carolina . . .

Here is the Tiberias Model lanyard (Black / Turquoise) ordered by Bobby P. of North Carolina.  He also ordered a Tiberias Model-Taylor, Texas edition.

Order YOUR lanyard for YOUR preferred method of fishing for YOUR favorite waters.  I will do my best to make sure you get what YOU want.  I won't be satisfied until YOU are satisfied.

'Nuff said!

Fish Whisperer - Willis Edition

This was a fun lanyard to make. A special order of a Fish Whisperer, adding a little from the Michels Model. Works for me . . . and I just got an email from the customer who ordered this lanyard. It works for him as well.

That is what I like best about making lanyards, getting word from the customer about how pleased they are. Positive word-of-mouth from my customers is the best advertising I could ever hope for.

Remember, if you ask me to build a lanyard, I'm not happy unless you are happy.

"Brushy Creek" Edition model lanyard on it's way to Dallas, TX

Here is a picture of the Gracie Model - Brushy Creek Edition lanyard (w/0 Tippet Holder) that was mailed today to the son of a new customer in Dallas, TX.

Making custom fly fishing lanyards for the way YOU fish on YOUR preferred waters is what we are about. I am not happy until you are.

I would love to design / build a lanyard for you.

Recent emails and positive blogger buzz . . .

I received an email from Richard V., a recent customer . . . who wrote:

Rick,  I just wanted you to know how well the lanyard is working out for me.  I really like it, and I've received compliments on it.  Thanks again.

Richard V.

Thanks Richard, I appreciate to kind words.

I also noted that Dean Burris at www.anglerwannabe.com have given Water Walker Lanyards several mentions on his blog.  As Dean, and Luciano Chavez of "Tales of A Texas Flyfisher" have noted in their blogs . . . central Texas (Austin area) is experiencing a bad drought.  And, the entire state has had a very hot summer.   Early morning fly fishing is still fruitful in some places . . . and going light, and wearing a lanyard instead of a vest has merits worth considering.

Thanks again, Dean, for your kind words as well.

Fish Whisperer Lanyard shipped to an angler in California . . .

The same California fly fisherman who ordered the Brushy Creek Edition model (see earlier blog) also ordered a Fish Whisperer Model lanyard, with a horizontal tippet holder.

First time I had built one . . . think I may have found the lanyard I want for myself.

If you are shopping for a fly fishing lanyard, and don't like the set up or quality of components, then please send me an email.  Let's design the lanyard YOU want for how YOU like to fish.

I am not happy with any lanyard until YOU are happy.

Brushy Creek Edition lanyard shipped to California angler . . .

Mailed out this Brushy Creek Edition Model lanyard to a new friend and fellow fly fisherman from California.  He also ordered a Fish ><> Whisperer Model with a horizontal tippet holder.

I am back from vacation, and have a good supply of parts, except for black coated #1 swivel connectors, but don't worry, I will have them in stock soon.  Because of the "economy," my local fishing tackle store has cut down on terminal tackle.

I would be honored to build the fly fishing lanyard YOU want, for fishing YOUR home waters, for the style of fishing YOU enjoy best.

I'm back home . . .

Vacation went a little longer than anticipated . . .

Hip Hip Hooray!

But now we are home . . . and most parts for any of the model lanyards I make are in stock.

Give me a yell!

Anglerwannabe.com review of his Water Walker Lanyard

Thanks to Dean Burris, who has the AnglerWannabe.com website. He posted a nice review of the Water Walker Custom Fly Fishing Lanyard I sent him. You can read it by clicking here.

When fishing on a day where the temperature is 102 F., believe me, a lanyard makes all the sense in the world.

Dean has great stuff on his website when he has time to post. I know how that is . . . things have been hopping this summer at the church, and today was the first day in 8 straight where we finally had a high temperature under 100 F. Sorta hard to get motivated to go fish, unless is is very late at night/early in the morning.

I'm looking forward to fall . . . some of the best bass fishing on flies happens in the fall.

What lanyard do I use?

Well, that is getting ready to change.

I currently use a lanyard very similar to the Gracie Model, with the Gulf Coast bead scheme.

However, I was very impressed with the Fish Whisperer lanyard I just sent to North Carolina.  My plan is to build one with the beads from a Gulf Coast lanyard, or with black and brown beads.

And I am going to add a horizontal tippet holder.

I am currently working on a lanyard with a verticle tippet holder . . . but haven't quite got it where I am willing to put my name on it.  More to come.

Thanks again to everyone who has ordered a lanyard . . .

All the lanyards ordered this past week have been shipped and delivered.  Right now, I have a bit of free time with no current orders pending.  Time for a little reflection.

I've been doing this a little over a year now . . . and:

-I have shipped lanyards to 16 different states.

-I have shipped the most orders to anglers here in Texas.  North Carolina is 2nd, and Colorado and California are tied for 3rd.

-This week, I had my first two pick-up orders, where I actually got meet the people who ordered the lanyards . . . that was a hoot!   I like shaking hands, and I like making friends.

-I have made, at best count, about 10 different styles of custom lanyards in the past 6 months.

-Orders of custom lanyards have now surpassed my original model orders that I first began with.

-Yes, I am still having fun.

I have some parts on order right now . . . but have enough foam to get 2-3 lanyards shipped out should anyone order one in the next week.   If you have an idea for a lanyard YOU want built YOUR way for the waters YOU fish, then let me know.  I would be glad to work up a prototype for your approval or modification.

An order from a Grandpa . . .

An interesting order, one that I almost missed because I forgot to open an email.

A businessman from Dallas contacted me and asked if I could make lanyards for his grandchildren by this Friday.  He wanted four different versions of my basic Dry Fly model.  I had the parts, so no problem.

From left to right . . . Southwestern Model, Dry Fly Model (Black/Turquoise), Gulf Coast Model, and Dry Fly (Black/Brown).

I will get to deliver these personally on Friday, June 26th, and get to meet a grandpa who is taking his four grandchildren fishing.  My Grandpa Brown took me fishing a lot.  Those are all great memories.

The old Chinese proverb still rings true today "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime."

My old friend, Charlie Pack, used to say about children and fishing . . . "Get'em of the streets and on the creeks!"

Truly, I am getting to meet some great people through Water Walker Lanyards.  I am so blessed.

The "Fish <>< Whisperer" Model Lanyard . . .

The "Fish Whisperer" Lanyard, sort of a cross between the Tiberias and Gracie-Taylor edition lanyards, which I put together for a new friend and fellow fly fisher who lives in North Carolina.  He retires in just a few days, and will begin doing more fishing in the days to come, fishing for fish as well as for people, as he begins a new personal evangelism ministry.

It was an honor to get to know this man, and to be commissioned to build his lanyard.  It will surely be a conversation starter with many people whose paths he will cross in the days to come.

This lanyard could be built with black/brown beads, as well as the Southwestern or Gulf Coast beads.

It is functional, and it looks good.

Why not have it both ways.

Congratulations Sid, on your well earned retirement, and blessings to your fishing efforts and new ministry.
